I am in Tarndanya/Adelaide to spend a few weeks at the gallery Adelaide Contemporary Experimental to undertake a process based residency with Alycia Bennet. This is the second part of our collaborative residency after spending a week at Metro Arts in Magandjin/Brisbane in May 2026.
For this residency we are exploring how to use tufting to make a synthesiser. Ali’s practice involves carpet making so it is a great opportunity to explore soft circuits and other forms of textiles to sewing. We are using conductive thread mixed with wool in a loop pile machine to create the electronic traces, the loop pile machine does not cut the thread maintaining the electrical connection.
