Just a quick experiment to see how it sounds when I attach tentacles to my supervisor Andrew Brown’s Drone Machine. The drone machine is a synthesiser controlled by capacitive touch with a range of parameters to shape the sound. By attaching tentacles to the Drone Machine I could play the notes by touching the tentacles. At first attachment nothing happened, I assumed this could be due to the difference in capacitive/conductive area, so I tried turning the synth off and on again in the hope that it would calibrate to the new attachment. Quite surprisingly this worked and I could easily trigger notes with tentacle touches. I would like to explore how to use the capacitive elements to include proximity so that i could gain some variety in the tentacle control. Currently, the tentacles are a glorified touchpad and in the future I hope to explore more options in expanding their use with the Drone Machine.
