Time Machine

I’m going to look at creating a delay effect with time machine and the texture 3d TOPs.

I started by using processing the video in to remove the background, feeding this image into the texture 3d TOP and out into the time machine TOP. For the second input on the time machine TOP I used a ramp and noise network that moved similar to water. This creates a time displacement effect. By experimenting with the step and the cache size on the Texture 3d TOP, I was able to tune the response so it flowed somewhat smoothly.

Findings

This is quite an effective way to do image displacement as it only displaces when the person moves and feels interactive due to this. Perhaps using the velocity in some additional way would enhance this feeling.
